Our client designs and manufactures commemorative and recognition products using poured acrylic.
Needs
The aim was to improve the productivity rate of a work cell made up of high-tech printers for applying ink to acrylic parts. Productivity was measured in terms of the machine’s operating time in relation to its downtime over a given reference period. First, the solution had to be fully automated and not involve any operator action. Stoppage and micro-stoppage times had to be available in real time and support an analysis that would pinpoint factors adversely affecting productivity.
Solutions
Octopus-Productivity was set up to automatically retrieve on, off and micro-stop times from the targeted printers.
The Octopus-DataCollector module provides connectivity directly to the equipment from a PLC without requiring operator intervention.
The Octopus-TrackSite module enables information to be shared with production managers via a web application, which is also available on mobile devices.
Results
Average productivity improvement of over 9%:
